Grow a Chicken Fighter Incubator Guide: Unlock & Best Pick

The Incubator is the biggest quality-of-life addition from Update #1: one chicken goes in, eggs pile up while you fight, and you claim them in a batch. Here is what it costs, how to level it, and which chicken actually belongs inside.

What the incubator does

  • You place one chicken in the slot. That chicken decides which eggs the incubator can produce, exactly like its normal laying trait.
  • Eggs stack in a storage bank until you press Claim. Storage is upgradable, so you can leave it running while you climb the tower or fight in the pit.
  • A luck boost builds up the longer you stay on the same server. The number players report is about 90 minutes in one server for +10% luck on rarer eggs (single-source, from recorded runs).
  • Your regular coop still holds eggs too (one player counted a 14-egg coop cap), so the incubator is extra capacity, not a replacement.

Whether it keeps producing while you are offline has not been confirmed by anyone we trust, so plan around being online.

Unlock cost and upgrade path

StepRequirement / effectHow solid is this?
Unlock300,000 CashReported in recorded play; one guide adds “Rebirth 3 or higher” (single source)
Storage upgradesStorage grows with each level; one player’s level 15 incubator held 54 eggs, another source puts the max at 60 eggsNumbers differ between sources; treat both as reported
High levelsSome upgrade levels are gated behind Rebirth 75Single source, but repeated by two creators
Lay timerFounder Rooster ≈ 4:39 per egg at base; ≈ 1:37 reported at a high incubator levelSingle recorded run each, so expect variation

300,000 Cash is a mid-game number. If you are still under a few rebirths, spend the money on feeders and the recycler first (see how to get money fast) and come back for the incubator once tower floors pay five figures.

The rebirth problem

Two things happen when you rebirth with the incubator running:

  1. Your luck boost resets. The boost also drops if you hop servers, so a private server you never leave is the safest way to keep it (see private servers).
  2. The chicken inside can get removed. Hotfix 1.1 on August 15 listed a fix for the incubator chicken being removed on rebirth, but players were still reproducing the bug on August 16. Until that is clearly fixed, claim your eggs and take the chicken out before every rebirth. If you rebirth often (high-rebirth players do it every couple of minutes), that habit matters more than any upgrade. More on cycle timing in the rebirth guide.

Which chicken to put in the incubator

Pick by the egg you want, not by who hits hardest. The whole point is the egg stream.

GoalChicken to useWhy
Colossal Egg (Storm Colossus, Talon Titan, Shockwave Hen, Rumble Rooster, Dudoo Squat)Founder RoosterThe only non-event Colossal source: about 25% of its lays are Colossal, with the rest split between Royal and Fortune
Fortune Egg (Founder Rooster, Baron Cluck, Golden Goose 1%)Baron CluckLays Fortune 100% of the time; Founder Rooster also gives Fortune but only half its lays
Haunt Egg (Doll Hen ~2%, Reaper Rooster under 1%)Zombie ChickHaunt 100%, roughly every 2 minutes; this is the Voodoo grind
Cursed Egg (404 Chick under 1%)Stone FaceCursed 100%, about every 2 minutes, faster with rebirth buffs
Royal Egg (Radiant Fenghuang, Phoenix Hen, Valkyrie Hen)Rooster of FortuneRoyal 100%; Crest Rooster is only 60%

A few notes from recorded runs:

  • Fusing several Founder Roosters together did not raise its egg fertility stat in one recorded test, so do not burn copies expecting more eggs.
  • Founder Rooster is not a single-egg chicken (Royal 50% / Fortune 50% normally, plus the Colossal share in the incubator), so expect a mix when you claim.
  • The egg index shown before a hatch reflects your current state, and some players believe rarer eggs get better pools as your recycler and rebirth count climb. That is why high-rebirth players chain incubator claims right before opening.

Quick setup checklist

  • Farm 300,000 Cash (and reach rebirth 3 if your server shows that gate).
  • Decide on the egg you are hunting, then drop in the matching chicken from the table above.
  • Stay on one server to build the luck boost; private servers help.
  • Claim eggs before each rebirth and pull the chicken out until the removal bug is confirmed dead.
  • Once Rebirth 75 is in reach, push storage levels for longer unattended runs.

For every egg pool and who lays what, use the egg index; for the patch history behind the incubator, see the update log.
